Following the introduction of containerisation in the mid 1960s, W. Carter (Haulage) Ltd was quick off the mark in setting up a national container transport service to and from Felixstowe. The next natural development was to provide container maintenance, repair and supply services. In 1978 C.E.L. (Engineering) Ltd was formally established as a separate company to handle this side of the business.
