Overview | TOPS - Traffic Planner | EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) | AMS - Vehicle Satellite Tracking | Siemens Digital Tachos
The C.E.L. Group was the first company to invest in Transport Operations & Processing Systems (TOPS) developed by Fargo Systems Ltd. Since first taking the plunge into an integrated computer system in 2001, C..E.L.'s I.T. systems have rapidly advanced and become more specialised to give a smoother and more efficient working environment, providing customers with constantly improving service
TOPS is the core operational software for the CEL Group. The bespoke software allows it to interact with other operational systems such as the Accounts, Reporting and HR packages. Through the close relationship between CEL and Fargo systems, TOPS has now evolved into being an almost fully automated Traffic Planning System.
EDI has been integrated into our TOPS system for more then 3 years. The whole concept of EDI is to exchange data between customers via email or FTP using the standard EDIFACT (Electronic Data Interchange for Administration Commerce Transport) format. This facility has helped streamline the entire Traffic operating process, in the past we may have received a phone call or fax requesting new jobs, resulting in Traffic Operators wasting valuable time manually inputting information in system. We now receive in the region of 600 EDI jobs each day requiring little or no input at all from the Operators.
Some would say this is like Big Brother and in a way it is, AMS have supplied us with the means to track all our Vehicles for a variety of reasons. The facility to track provides us with the means to offer our customers precise information on the current location of a vehicle. The truly live GPRS tracking facility provides us with a "snail trail" which allows us to track based on location, direction, speed route and history which gives us the following key benefits:
AMS also supply us with a full CANbus reading which allows us to receive a more accurate mileage report; this is also imported in to our TOPS systems to provide us with detailed reports for the CEL Fleet Department.
Digital Tachos have been the latest adaptation to our network and was introduced early May 2006 to meet the new Department of Transport guidelines for the Working Time Directive. The introduction has given us a vastly improved insight into driver and vehicle reporting in an efficient way with almost live and up to date information.
